being physically or emotionally abused by a spouse/partner is a frightening and lonely experience. You may feel that you are the only person to whom this is happening. In
reality, millions of people of all ages, gender, cultural and economic backgrounds experience domestic violence every year. Knowing that you are not the only one experiencing violence in an intimate relationship can help to free you from the shame and embarrassment you may be feeling. It also may help you understand that the abuse does not occur because you are doing something “wrong,” or that you do something to cause it
to happen.
lyrics
Signs of domestic violence are:
When You have been slapped, shaken, pushed, bitten, punched, beaten, pinched, kicked, stabbed, have had an object thrown at you, strangled, been hit with a weapon or shot
When you have been threatened, accused unjustly of having affairs, constantly criticized, humiliated in public, called derogatory names &/or had your thoughts and feelings constantly ignore or denied
When your children have been threatened or abused to punish you. When affection has been withheld as punishment and you have been forced to submit to reckless driving.
When you are scared to deny sex to your partner,or you have been forced to perform unwanted sexual acts, raped, forced to have sex with others or to watch others, or have been called demeaning sexual names
When property or pets that you value have been harmed or destroyed, when you have been manipulated with lies, promises and contradictions.
When Your personal freedom has been restrained, such as:
You being isolated from friends and family members,
Having been locked in or out of the house or abandoned in dangerous places
When you have no access to Financial resources or no part in making financial decisions and/or are prevented from seeking employment.
When you have been denied medical care, including reproductive health options or medical care when pregnant.

enrique Jesus Hernandez is a performance rock artist and domestic abuse activist. _HUNGER CITY], his latest EP, and music
videos, is him as a child witnessing his mother being physically and emotionally abused. Live shows of it utilize symbolic set design, costumes, and lights such as a bed sheet the audience holds, at first representing a shield to protect him....more
